Southside Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Crewe, Virginia, is a member-owned rural electric utility which provides electric services to more than 56,000 homes and businesses in portions of Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Pittsylvania, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince George and Sussex counties; the towns of Altavista, Hurt, Crewe, Blackstone, Kenbridge and South Hill; and the city of Petersburg.
The Cooperative has four district offices and its service territory spans approximately 180 miles from the City of Petersburg to Bedford County (east to west), and 90 miles from Powhatan County to approximately 16 miles from the North Carolina line (north to south).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION
A completed Southside Electric Cooperative Application for Employment is required of everyone applying to our open position(s).
To ensure access to the fillable form as designed, the application must be completed following these steps exactly as written. This is particularly critical to applicants using Google Chrome and is recommended for everyone: If you have difficulty, please read through the instructions again to ensure that you have followed all steps as provided.

Save the blank application to your computer with this format: LastName, FirstName SEC Application, Position Title.
Close the application after you have saved it to your computer.
Go to the saved location on your computer and right click once to open the drop down menu. Choose the option to open with Adobe Acrobat.
Verify that the application has opened in If the correct fillable format: there should be a small orange indicator arrow at the signature line on page five. The submit button on page five should be bright blue.
If the application is in the correct format as indicated above, you may proceed to complete your application.
If you do not see the orange arrow at the signature line, CLOSE the blank application, then from your computer, right-click on the application and select Open With and choose Adobe Acrobat.
Digitally sign the application by clicking on the signature field on page 5. A window will open with any Digital IDs previously used on that computer.
If you have a previously established signature, select that option, click "Continue", and enter your digital ID PIN or Password, and click "Sign". A Save window will open. Once you have saved the completed application, click the blue "Submit Application" button to activate the email with the completed application attached. You may manually attach your resume, cover letter, and other documents to that email. If you have forgotten your password to a previously created digital signature, you will need to create a new signature following the steps below. There is no way to retrieve it.
If you do not have a previously established signature, click "Configure New Digital ID". A window will open to select the type of Digital ID. Select the third option - Create a new Digital ID and click "Continue".
Select the first option "Save to File" and click "Continue".
Enter your name and email address where indicated (leave everything else in the default) and click "Continue".
If you wish to change the location for your digital ID, you may do so at this step. Enter a password, then re-enter the password to confirm. Click "Save".
The Sign with a Digital ID window will open again and your newly created Digital Signature will be at the top of the list. Make sure it is selected and click "Continue".
Enter your password and click "Sign".
A file folder will open on your computer. Save the completed and signed application where you would like to store it.
Open the application and click the blue Submit Application button on page 5
All steps in this process are critical. If any step is omitted, the application will not open in the correct fillable format.
If you do not see the signature arrow on page five, please repeat being sure that you are following the instructions exactly as written.
ATTENTION GOOGLE CHROME USERS! If you do not save the application with a unique name prior to adding any information to the application, the moment you click “Save”, all data you have entered will be deleted. This is a Chrome issue that we cannot control.
When the SEC Application for Employment is complete, click on the bright blue “SUBMIT APPLICATION” button under your signature on page five. This may prompt you to select Outlook or Webmail (Gmail, Yahoo, aol, etc.) as your email tool. Once selected, your default email service will open with the application attached. At this point you may attach your resume and cover letter.
If your email service does not create the new email with the application attached, please email the completed application and any additional forms or documents such as resume` and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional tips for success:
- If you have difficulty with the application process, please read and follow these instructions fully, especially if you are using Google Chrome.
- When emailing, be sure to include your full name and the position title in the subject line.
- Be sure to include your full name and document type in ALL attachments. For example: Smith, Adam SEC Application; Smith, Adam Resume; Smith, Adam Cover Letter.
- If you are applying for more than one position, your application file name should reflect that. For example, Smith, Adam SEC Application Line Technician; Smith, Adam SEC Application Apparatus Technician. If you are providing a different resume or cover letter for each position, the position should also be included in the file name along with your name. Please send applications to different positions in separate emails.
- Please be specific when stating referral source on the application including website name or social media platform. If you are referred by an employee of SEC, please provide the employee's name.
All Voluntary Self-Identify forms are optional. The name field at the bottom of each Self-Identify page is to be printed, not signed. These forms are also fillable, therefore, please follow steps 1 through 4 as for the SEC Application for Employment to access the correct fillable version.
Applications and forms completed online and emailed forms are preferred, however, job seekers may also use any of the following methods for submitting their completed application. Emailed applications and documents must be in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format.
