CREWE, Va - Due to the number of school closings caused by winter weather over the past few weeks, Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) has extended the application deadline for the 2015 Electric Co-op Youth Tour so that all interested students will have the opportunity to apply. The new deadline is Friday, March 13, 2015.
Current high school juniors that live within the geographic boundaries of SEC's service area are eligible to apply for this unforgettable experience to attend the Electric Co-op Youth Tour, June 14-18, 2015. Participants will be able to meet with their House and Senate members on Capitol Hill and tour the U.S. Capitol.
Scheduled events for the 2015 Youth Tour include the Newseum, visits to various national monuments and memorials, The Pentagon and 9/11 Memorial, the National Air & Space Museum at the Udvar-Hazy Center and a performance at the Kennedy Center. Participants will have the chance to socialize with many students from other states during a cruise on the Potomac River and at the “All-States” dinner & dance.
SEC pays all expenses and provides transportation to the Crystal City Hyatt, along with all attractions and events.
Youth Tour representatives are selected by SEC based on application, essay and an interview. To qualify, students must be juniors who live, or attend school, within SEC’s geographic boundaries. Membership in the co-op is not a prerequisite for applying.
