to Help Celebrate the 2014 Membership Meeting ~
CREWE – The 77th Annual Membership Meeting of Southside Electric Cooperative will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Hooper Park in Crewe, Va. The Official Notice of the Annual Meeting can be found on the inside page of the front cover of this month’s issue of the co-op magazine, Cooperative Living.
Come fly the friendly skies with the Touchstone Energy® Hot-Air Balloon!
Once again, SEC is excited to host the Touchstone Energy® Hot-Air Balloon at Hooper Park on Saturday from 8:00am to 10:15am. SEC members and their families who are interested in taking a short ride in the balloon above the park grounds are asked to pay a donation of $5 per person. Balloon rides will be subject to weather conditions, and all donations will benefit SEC’s Scholarship Fund. For more information about the balloon, go to www.cbaballoon.com.
Registration & Lunch
Annual meeting registration will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Each registering member will receive a free gift and two (2) meal tickets for a delicious barbecued chicken lunch. Additional meal tickets may be purchased for three (3) dollars each. Members are encouraged to come early to enjoy a day of fellowship with friends, local elected officials, members of the SEC Board of Directors, and co-op employees.
Return SEC Member Proxy Card and Be Entered to Win $500 of Free Electricity
The SEC member Proxy Card, which is self-addressed and postage-paid, can be found on the back of the special light blue cover of this month’s issue of Cooperative Living. Members should simply fill out and sign the card, tear off the Proxy Card along the perforated line and deliver/mail it to the cooperative.
Members who sign and return the Proxy Card so it can be received at SEC’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, will be eligible to participate in a drawing for a chance to win $500 towards their next electric bill. The Proxy Card should be signed and returned even if a member plans to attend the annual meeting.
When a member registers at the annual meeting, the proxy that has been executed by him/her becomes invalid, and the member in question is entitled to vote on all matters that might take place in the same manner as if the proxy had not been executed. Returning the proxy also helps to ensure that a quorum is present at the annual meeting.
Three (3) Directors to be Elected
Highlighting the business session of the 77th SEC Annual Meeting will be the election of three (3) persons to serve on SEC’s Board of Directors to represent districts I, II, and III of the Cooperative’s service territory. As your elected representatives, the Board of Directors conducts the business affairs and establishes overall policies for the Cooperative. Members are also provided information about the financial health of the Cooperative, along with a progress report of ongoing and future activities and programs.
This year’s Annual Meeting will again feature a health fair. SEC members/attendees can obtain free health screenings and other health-related information. Personnel from area hospitals and other service organizations will also be on hand to provide screenings, information and materials on the availability of additional services and resources.
Fun for the Whole Family
Kid-friendly activities include a bounce-house and an appearance by co-op mascot CFL Charlie. Other activities will include exhibits, live music by the band Southbound and periodic prize drawings. SEC members should mark their calendars now and plan to attend the 77th Annual Membership Meeting of their member-owned electric cooperative.
