SEC Thanks All Those Involved in Storm Restoration

Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) would like to recognize all those that provided assistance during the storm restoration efforts following the severe weather event on February 24, 2016.

Severe thunderstorms, high winds and an EF-3 tornado in Appomattox County resulted in widespread outages throughout SEC’s service territory.

In total, 140 additional personnel were utilized to help restore power to SEC members following the storm. Joining SEC’s 65 full-time linemen in the power restoration efforts were 16 contractor crews, 10 right-of-way clearing crews and mutual aid crews from neighboring cooperatives.

Contractor crews included Townsend Tree Service, Rocky Creek Tree Service, Timberlane Trees & Landscaping, LLC Davis H. Elliot, Inc., Pike Corporation, Inc., C.W. Wright Construction Company, Diversified Services, Inc., and Flagger Force, Inc.

Mutual aid crews included three Virginia co-ops, Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC), Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and B.A.R.C. Electric Cooperative (BARC), along with Jacksonville, NC-based Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation (JOEMC). .

The following food vendors provided food for SEC personnel during power restoration efforts: Blackstone Herb Cottage in Blackstone, Brock’s Barbeque in Chester, One Stop Mart in Altavista and Yoder’s Market in Crewe.

We would like to sincerely thank the Appomattox Rescue Squad for their kind gesture of donating and delivering pizzas to various work sites to help feed line crews in the field.

SEC would like to extend a special thank you to our members for their patience throughout the restoration process.
