Southside Virginia residents banded together in 1937 to serve their communities and enhance quality of life by bringing electricity to the rural area. Today, service remains an integral part of Southside Electric Cooperative’s foundation. The Cooperative provides safe, reliable and affordable power to nearly 48,000 members across 18 counties and actively contributes to the communities where they live, while staying at the forefront of ever-changing technology.
Join Our Team
In 2025, the Southside Opportunity Fund will award $1,000 scholarships to students served by the Cooperative.
The fund is supported through fundraising efforts, donations from individuals and businesses, and bequests.
Scholarship Process
SEC takes students to Washington, D.C. through the nationally acclaimed Youth Tour program to experience the federal government and see many of the national capital’s attractions.

SEC hosts students at its offices for a popular career program, Day in the Life of a Lineworker.
