The third annual Southside Opportunity Fund Skeet & Trap Classic will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox.

The event, a fundraiser for scholarships for high school graduates in Southside Electric Cooperative’s (SEC) service area, will begin at 8 a.m., and the day will include one round each of skeet and trap shooting, breakfast, lunch, raffle and awards for the top individual and team shooters.

Skeet and trap shooters of all skill levels are invited to participate and should bring their own guns and ammunition. The shoot is limited to 40 participants, who must register in advance. Registration fee is $75 per person or $325 for a squad of five.

All proceeds will go to Southside Opportunity Fund scholarships for graduating high school seniors in the Cooperative’s service territory who are headed to college or a trade/technical school. In four years, the scholarship fund has awarded 71 grants totaling $78,000 to graduates at 24 public and private high schools.

Sponsorship and donation opportunities are available for businesses and individuals who’d like to support the shoot and scholarship program.

For more information about registering or sponsoring, contact Mark Thomas, community relations coordinator in SEC’s Altavista office, at 434-645-3276 or mark.thomas@sec.coop or visit sof.coop.

Southside Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperative that serves more than 56,000 homes and businesses in portions of 18 counties in central and southern Virginia. Headquartered in Crewe, SEC has district offices in Altavista, Crewe, Dinwiddie and Powhatan.
